Oh my. The kitchen cupboards are all in and ready for me to put things in. I am completely overwhelmed and don't know where to start.

Before the leak I had only 3 double cupboards - two floor cupboards that I kept crockery, mixing bowls, saucepans, dishes, food mixer, etc in and one wall cupboard that had mugs, plates, etc in. All the food and other bits and pieces were (and are) in the pantry.

I now have 4 wall cupboards and 3 double, 1 single and 1 sink floor cupboard.

I think I am going to start with all the food stuff that is in the pantry. Probably with herbs, spices and baking stuff as I know exactly where they are going to be going.

Very exciting but rather daunting!

When we first viewed this house I was delightedly gobsmacked at the amount of cupboard space and remember thinking I didn't have enough 'things' to fill them with.

When we moved here I was aware it's a small kitchen, but having lived in Bb's flat for 3 years I was like a kid in a sweetshop The day after we moved in I rushed out and bought a whole chicken because I hadn't had an oven in all that time
Unpacking all my kitcheny stuff was like Christmas

Actually with a lot of it, having done it several times, I've found the best way is often to just put things where you first think of. A lot of it will be right anyway, and after a few weeks you'll have abetter idea of what should be moved and where to

The thing I'm finding the funniest is how I'm working in there.

For years I have had the tiniest amount of work surface - literally just the size of a double floor cupboard. I used to have to spread things all over the place (the sink, the top of the cooker, the pantry). I have a big wooden chopping board that took up over half of the workspace.

Now I will have long work top space down two walls (although the sink is on one of those too). I don't have worktops yet but can still use the space - I have an old work top on top of one side and on the other side the floor cupboards have tops on them.

On the worksurface along the back wall I have the microwave, the set of knives, the oils, the pot holding all my utensils, the kettle, a glass jug and my big chopping board. That's where I work.

On the other long work top, which is at least as long as the one I have all the bits and pieces on (not including the sink space) I have absolutely nothing! I don't use it at all. Mick put the kettle on there today and I promptly moved it back to the other work top.

I think it will take quite a long time for me to get used to having so much work surface!

Enjoy Debih. I have completely remodelled two kitchens in houses we've owned. The first was quite small to begin with but wound up with one work surface over 15' long with attendant floor and wall units.

Experience says that you will "acquire" the paraphernalia to fill them. In our latest (R3), revision of the kitchen in France, Mrs S made cupboards with shelves all at the right heights and sizes to fit individual items. She was sick of having to stack stuff on top of each other.

We've reduced the unit surface and are going for a central island with loads of space, a pop up power socket bar and a built in marble pastry slab. I know how you are feeling, our kitchen has been in an uproar for nearly a year now. Feel for me, I put in the suspended ceiling, all the wiring and 12 halogen downer lights along with the central light and a new light over the sink.....

It will still take us the better part of the next month to get the kitchen finished, but I'll put some photo's in when it's done.
