His nephew is the mayor of Ourique and we'll be meeting his extended family

I should add, the Portuguese are very family minded and to be included in a family celebration, as this is, is a real honour for estrangeiros

that is fantastic... but then I do think you've really made such an effort to fit in that you're definitely not considered estrangeiros anymore. You don't differentiate between 'them and us' to you two it's always 'us'
