And don't forget, that unlike most other notes / coins that stay in circulation for quite some time - the old £1 will go out of circulation fairly quickly and will no longer be considered legal tender. And not even sure you can exchange them at banks after that date - I think it's August.
so if you have any "old" £1 coins, exchange them asap

Some collectors are likely to hang onto the old round pounds as they have had a short lifespan in essence with varied designs over the years.
I have a few sets of the new decimal coins when they were introduced maybe for my grandchildren they might be worth a few bob more than they cost.
Untill he died my dad had a complete hessian sack of the old halfpennies he got when they were the last issue minted, they were sold at a tidy profit but I guess the buyers made more selling them off individually.
I have many Manx Crowns in my collection some that were Dads but wish I had been able to afford the many Gold and Silver coins the island printed over the last 50 years now they will have vastly increased in value even at scrap rates.
Manxie xx

Ria, someone from somewhere official (I only caught the tail end of the interview) was on the radio this morning and they said that even after the final date we'll still be able to take old coins along to a post office (and possibly the bank?) and have them exchanged.

That's good to know, thanks Jo.

It's October when they cease to be legal tender, and then they can still be exchanged by the banks

I caught the lunchtime news round at D's

Even if they're not gold or silver editions, I should think your Manx crowns are worth a bob or two if they're in good condition, aren't they Manxie?
