Be careful, this one looks reasonably authentic.

PayPal

We need your help resolving an issue with your PayPaI account. Until you help us resolve this issue, we've temporarily Iimited.

What's going on ?

We noticed some unusual activity on your PayPaI account on 25/2/2017 on 12:49 PDT via IOS/Safari because yοur accοunt was recently lοgged intο frοm a new brοwser , device or new location and we are concerned about potential unauthorized account access.

What to do next ?

In οrder tο аccess yοur accοunt again, complete the steps to confirm your identity and recent account activity. To help protect your account, access will berremain Iimited until you complete the necessary steps.

Underneath that is a blue link 'Resolve your account'.

In the quote bit above, notice 'to reamain limited' in the first line, and 'berremain' in the last line. Unlikely typos, which was my first clue.
Second clue, there is nothing at the bottom of the email, you know 'this was sent to you because, etc',it's blank.

So I logged into my paypal a/c - NOT via this email - and sure enough, there has been no activity since I paid for our flights in January.

Another clue is that it has not happened yet!

PDT is 8 hours behind GMT which means it is still only 05:30am PDT. 12:49 on 25/02/17 is in the future. so be careful what you are spending at 9pm today Di. It could come from mind reading alien time travellers who have your number.

The reason Safari browser was chosen is because it has a low share of the market and is 'unlikely' to be used by the email recipient. That then fires up the question in their mind as to who might it be? You know - it's not me I always use Chrome/ IE - help!

Hovering your mouse over the blue 'Resolve your account' link, but without clicking, should provide a link address in your status bar, but even that could be spoofed.

It needs reporting to PayPal Di... my link is good and the info is under the 'Fake PayPal emails or spoof websites' heading half way down the page.

And BTW, thanks for bringing this to light - some people would be tken in.

I can understand people not so savvy - or just in a rush - thinking, oh gosh PayPal, best sort that out straight away.
Thanks for the link, will report it.

Don't use PayPal so no problem
Have had similar emails which I have deleted without being opened.
But thank you for the reminder that there are scams coming all the time.

Thanks for this Di, I'm sure some non-techy people could easily be caught by this.

Of course, as you know, and for the record, the Golden Rule is never to log into anything from an email link - if you are unsure go into your browser and log into the site from there. If it is genuine there will be a notification there.
