WHY?

Postby AliasAggers » 31 Dec 2016, 16:02

I don't know about you, but I often find myself asking, "Why?".

It occurred to me that perhaps others, too, are in the same boat, and I thought that maybe we could start a thread on
this Board where we could all feel free to ask, "WHY", and maybe help each other to understand things a little better.

To start the ball rolling, here's a couple of my Why's.

1.- When travelling by car, there is a legal requirement to wear a seatbelt.
Why, then, don't they have seatbelts on a bus?

2 - Why is the orange box on a plane called a black box?

Any answers or more questions ?.

Nice idea Aggers.

A 'black box' is something you put things in and take things out without 'it' knowing anything about them. An aircraft one is painted orange to make it easier to see - not many things in nature are orange.

1. Why do people not have their money or cards ready when buying things, do they think they are free?

2. Why is it so difficult to remove the shells of some hard boiled eggs?

Like this thread!

One which I always used to ponder about is...

Why does it always rain when it's time for the children to come out of school?

I can perhaps help with No 2 WM. The fresher the eggs the harder it is to remove the shells. I am guessing this has something to do with the fact a fresh egg sinks in water and a stale egg floats, meaning there is air inside a stale egg. Since I have had my own chickens I know that their eggs are impossible to peel and the only difference is that they are eaten within days of being laid. Eggs keep for a long time but their shells are permeable so as they age they allow more air in making them easier to peel. That is only my theory though

Thanks Shell, that sounds about right. It is the fresh bought ones that are the most difficult to peel.

Why do sink and bath overflows not drain more water than their taps provide?

Workingman says - 1. Why do people not have their money or cards ready when buying things, do they think they are free?

That thought has often occurred to me, Frank. In some cases it is short-term memory loss in older folk, but why younger
people do it is beyond me. My tactic when choosing a till is to select the one that has the fewer people in the queue.
If there are many older customers in the queue the packing and paying business can take a very long time.

miasmum- Thanks for the Egg answer. We had some hard-boiled eggs recently that just refused to be de-shelled.
I think your answer is correct.

Far too busy unpacking baskets, loading up conveyors, chatting with the assistants, putting things in bags, checking none of the eggs are cracked, adding sweets from the stall at the end of the checkout, running back to grab the loo rolls they've forgotten .....
