Any curtain specialists out there?

I'm stumped - easily done when it comes to overly domestic things, but still....

I bought new curtains - super bargain pencil pleat ones. Curtains arrived and I realised they didn't already have the pleats in them, but you need to pull the tape to required size and then use appropriate hooks. But, try as I might, I just don't seem to be able to find pencil pleat curtain hooks. I know we had them when I was growing up - three pronged metal hooks they were - as all curtains then were pencil pleat ones. So the question is; what does one buy now-a-day?

As said, I'm well and truly stumped. I bought a pack of small plastic hooks, but they don't fit through the loop of the rings that go onto the curtain rail.

help anyone?

Not sure why it never came up with all my other google searches, but did another one and it would seem that what I'm looking for is called a Pinch Pleat Prong; and it's four vs three prongs (I got that bit wrong)

Jeez, Ria, you don't half ask some.

It will all depend on your runners and then the curtain braids.

Runners are manufacturer dependent, and so are their hooks, so you will need to buy hooks to suit the runners. Braids come in all sorts, singles, doubles, trebles.

Mine are doubles, but I use single hooks on the bottom run of the braids, they work well. I buy curtains to fit the window width then pull the braids back to half the opening. So, if the window is 100cm I get two 100cm curtains and pull them back to 50cm. When they are drawn the window is closed.

If I have say 10curtain rings on the curtain pole each side
I fix 10 hooks evenlly. Through the tape before I draw the tape
To the right window width half way to the middle of the window
Then do the other side to match
I also thread lead weights through the bottom hem to make them pleate better

I'm just so glad I'm not the only one that's confused.

I'm fairly sure that what I'm needing are the four pronged things so I'll order some of those and see what gives. Must say - eyelet curtains from Ikea are so much easier

We've just got wooden Venetian blinds at all windows so I don't need to know anything about curtains (thankfully, it looks like a minefield if this thread's anything to go by ).
