Tourist 65 throws herself into the sea to catch the boat !!!!!!!!!!

65yr old English woman missed the sailing of the cruise ship MARCO POLO yesterday when it left Funchal, she then took a taxi Eastwards to Santa Cruz, and dived in the sea attempting to swim 500m to the ship!!!! :o

Fishermen heard her screams and rescued her (still had her handbag)!! ,taken to Hosp with fatigue & hypothermia.

what it is with tourists and seemingly leaving their brains behind when they go on holiday?

Vic, you should write "An Idiots Guide to Madeira" reciting all these 'misadventures' thereby creating a humerous tourist guide advising what to do; or maybe more importantly on what not to do; to enjoy a holiday in your neck of the woods. You do get some oddballs over your way don't you

PS: but make sure you have the guide in German and English as they seem to be the main culprits

I think she must have completely flipped out! It was in the paper today that they were four days from the end of a four week luxury cruise to celebrate their anniversary! They'd left the ship to fly home after having a bad argument, got separated on shore, she thought he'd got back on the ship which is when she dived in. He however caught the flight and flew home alone  :? She was almost dead from hypothermia after four hours in the water, and has since been put into a psychiatric ward, which to me indicates she's had some sort of mental health episode :(

It's a strange tale all together :?
