My bedroom doesn't have a radiator - we had to remove it to make space for my wardrobe and I've never really needed to get it replaced. But now with the stray cat in house I need to keep the bedroom door shut most of the time so he can't get in there and out via the cat flap. This in turn means that the warmth from the rest of the flat isn't getting into the bedroom which means it's like a fridge at the moment which isn't good for the furniture, walls etc..... So I'm thinking of getting a small radiator. Given I am looking to have it on quite a bit, I'd rather not have a fan one and think these oil filled are safer - and this one has a fairly low wattage so perfect for my small room

what do you think?

I think that would be fine - those oil filled rads are very good, we had one in the post office when we were working. It will just keep the chill out of the room.

We all leave loads of things 'switched on' all the time. We might call it 'standby', but even though they are not working they are in effect 'switched on'. However, things are left on and working all the time and we think nothing of them - fridge, freezer, alarm clock..... A heater is no different, in reality.

I have a convection heater in my little office. It has a thermostat, so switches itself on and off all the time. I leave it alone when I go out. It might be a heater but it is no more likely to go up in flames than the fridge.

That sounds like a great idea to me Ria, and as the others have said I'm sure it will be perfectly safe

We have this in our conservatory, have to say it's much more effective than the oil filled ones we have had in the past

Gal, I was looking at that one originally as I've had a similar one before but gave it away because I wasn't using it, and I agree, they are fab. But - maybe I'm being silly - I feel safer with the oil filled one with the cats, esp when I'm not around and I'm looking to leave this one on 24/7 at the moment

Simialar product, but £10 cheaper. Both of them have two heat settings: 400w and 600w or both = 1kw. I am thinking that either setting will keep the chill off during the day then with both on during the evening your bedroom will get warm before going to bed. There would quite a bit of a cost saving in electric if you wanted to leave it on 24/7.

thanks Frank - I was going to go via Amazon, but really wanted it last night already so went to Argos. Besides which, Amazon would then have had to deliver to my home and I wouldn't be there which in turn would mean a trip to the post office or somewhere else to collect it so I'd only get it Saturday.... Argos in this instance was just easier.

I ended up buying a 1.5Kw one that is working a charm so far. Plugged it in when I got home just before 8 (thank you SWT for the delays) and by the time I went to bed the room was just right; so I switched it off.

Back on this morning and left it on level 2 (out of 6) for the day and will see what it's like when I get home - but so far it's promising
