I lived in or near Staines for many years
The Swan in Staines is lovely but no idea if its expensive to stay there these days. It might be since they gentrified Staines and renamed it Staines-upon-Thames
I'll be in Staines tomorrow, having H's birthday lunch at the Slug and Lettuce on the opposite side of the river. The food at the Swan is lovely, we had a family lunch for B's 18th birthday there, I think it cost me about £200 for 8 of us including our drinks bill...I just looked at the website, seems to compare reasonably with the Premier Inn/Travelodge sort of prices

don't stay at the Travelodge at The Two Rivers in Staines it is horrible! A room we booked there two years ago was really awful and £100 for the night. The tiles were broken in the bathroom, there was a cheap shower curtain on the basic over-bath shower, the laundry lorry woke us at 5am (bearing in mind we'd had a skin full at the family party the night before) and my sister and BIL had to move rooms on the middle of the night as theirs was infested with midges
