Di, another farm shop I used to use, I was mildly in love with the checkout girl,  also had an open barn. You could see right in and the hens wandered all over their enclosed paddock next to the car park. The eggs were simply sold as eggs - big, medium and small - no free-range, organic or anything else, just eggs. It was in the time before all the egg regulations came in. I blame Edwina Currie.

Ossie, I still am price-driven when I shop, but not any more when it comes to meat and eggs - for those I try and make sure that I buy where I know that animal welfare has been considered. I love meat and used to eat lots and lots of it and always go for the cheapest option, but now I'd rather have less but better and where possible I try and buy from my butcher as he gets his stuff locally and has a good reputation. I also asked on my local Streetlife forum about local fresh food recommendations and how have a lot of farm shops to go visit and investigate - can't wait :)

I've been considering going veggie again. I was a veggie for a year or two in my twenties, but haven't made up my mind yet  ;)

I don't eat a lot of meat but don't think I could cut it out completely.

I managed perfectly happily that time, so know I could do it.......I've been getting more and more involved in animal issues on FB over the last year or so, and do worry a lot about how the animals are treated.....

I probably have at least three meat-free days most weeks anyway :)

Same here Jo - I don't think I could cut it out completely either. But what I can do is make the right choices when it comes to buying ;-)

This Caveman diet I am following allows for one protein rich meal per day, and because of that am buying better cuts of meat and fresh fish from the market. Chicken I have always bought from the free-range selection whenever I could as it tastes of chicken. There are some things it is worth paying the extra for.

I also do veggie days here and there, but I am not confident that I could go totally veggie.
