I'd have preferred the Netherlands to win, but in all honesty - beard aside; the Austrian entry was a very good one; she has a decent voice and could sing so I'm happy with her having won.

It's definitely toned down a lot these past two or three years; less garish outfits and odd acts masking the fact that people can't sing; which sort of was what the fun was all about. This year nearly every entry was able to hold a tune :D and only Poland with their girl having a good time with that bucket thing ooked as though they entered the wrong programme :P

I watched the first ten minutes of it (the first time for donkey's years) and then switched it off.

What a load of rubbish!

As someone has said here, it's not a song contest any more.

I saw a bit of the winner's effort on the news, and must admit she(?) has a good voice. I'll say no more.

I thought the Austrian song was only average, and if he hadn't been a guy in a dress with a beard, he would not have won and maybe The Netherlands would have as it was the best song for me. There is no doubt that it was all a protest vote against Putin and his attitude to gay people, the way the Russian twins were treated was terrible. There were quite a few "proper" songs this year and far fewer gimmicks, so maybe it might get back to being more of a song contest again - it was annoying that the Beard was given the award, there was a time that the composers got the award, and the singer got flowers.

This is what he/she looked like before the transformation into Conchita Wurst.

There were a good few songs we liked (I didn't take notes so can't remember whose) but this Austrian one was at least as good as any on our mental list :)

I think his drag act looks astonishingly beautiful, tbph. OK so it's probably a gimmick, but no difference really to Sandy Shaw not wearing shoes, or Bucks Fizz ripping the girls' skirts off halfway through...I do remember another such act from a few years ago, Dana International - who also won. They all need 'something' to make the song more memorable than all the rest. Conchita did that better than the rest last night, is all :)

But it was just a political gesture aimed at Putin and his anti-gay laws. Nothing to do with a song contest.

I think it's completely political. If the UK brought Elvis back from the dead and entered him in the contest we would still get plenty of Nul points. :D

If we brought Elvis back from the dead after all this time, we would deserve nul points

I actually enjoy the voting more than the singing. I love playing guess where their points will go and I am getting surprisingly good at it
