A costly bitter disappointment Kaz, so sorry that these problems have suddenly come to light.. Hope something satisfactory comes out of of what can only be described as this fiasco.. (((((Becky..Kaz)))))

Everything happens for a reason, I'm sure something fantastic will come of this missed opportunity. Have faith.

There's so many troubled destinations in the world Kaz and so unlucky there's been another flare up in Borneo for B but hopefully other exciting cultural, historic and nature trips will be arranged so it will still be an amazing experience for her. I looked at a map of the rain forest in Borneo and was shocked at how much of it has vanished as it's been cleared to grow Palm Oil, the same as the Amazon rain forest.

We've been to several places where trouble has been brewing just before we've been due to go there and sometimes I've wished the Foreign Office would tell UK travellers not to go as that way the insurance company would refund the cost. Sometimes we've been places and the week after we've got back something terrible has happened like the terrorist bombing in Jordan and the Moscow Theatre and always the undercurrent of danger in Egypt and the Middle East. My Dear Mum used to really worry and say - why do you always go to dangerous places - and I would tell her sitting on a beach resort in Europe might be safe but for us it would be boring, the same as for B.

She'll have a great time.

Fortunately most flare ups like that do soon fizzle. I must tell my Sierra Leone story, we were there when there was one of the many bloody coups
but the fun soon wore off and it was near pay day, everyone had gone back to work after a few days Anyway one evening quite late after the servants had gone there was a furious banging at the door. When I opened it there was a breathless man whom I recognised from the High Commission blurting out that there was a destroyer off the port and he wanted us to pack one suitcase with essentials and be ready to move at a moments notice. I said hang on it is all over and we have gone back to work but he just muttered something and rushed off to the next house. 8-)
