HELLO! ANYBODY THERE?

A place to chat with friends, old and new

I must admit that I often wonder what has happened to some of the members
who used to post regularly, and of those who took part in the Quizzes I used to
post on our old site. I remember their names well. But times change and we
must accept that people go for various reasons - sometimes sad ones.

Is there anything that can be done to enrol new members? I've often thought
about this. but, and I don't know why, I am reluctant to broach the subject to
any of my "real life" friends. Does anyone else feel that way?

Quite honestly I am happy with VV the way it is - if any of you want to invite new members they will be most welcome, but please drop a note to one of the admin team beforehand to let us know what username they will be using, otherwise they might well get accidentally 'zapped' alongside the dozens (and occasionally hundreds) of fake spam registrations we get here daily, which the admin team have to zap before we get spammed with porn or Viagra ads ;)

Three things ....

I think, because we're like a family, that when we have something to say, we say it. Rather than just say things just because we feel we should.

This. I suspect that some "regular" folk may come on the site and read the active topics without logging in, and then disappear off again because they've got now't specific to say at that particular point of time. I know I do, and I don't think that's necessarily wrong, is it? I suspect it also explains the high Guest count when you look at the main page. These aren't people who are not members, they're members who simply are reading without logging in?

Secondly, by a sheer coincidence, this thread was started on the same day as this one, on the General forum of one of the other boards I'm a reasonably active member on:

Quiet in 'ere, innit!
Seems like everyone's on holiday!

Ssssshhh! I'm trying to have a kip before the season starts proper! ;)

Don't they take their phones and/or laptops with them? :o

[In the past] I've moderated the boards next to a pool in Tunisia. Surprisingly this year's holiday has been moved

Thought for the last 6 months or so certain sections on the board were becoming very quiet

(Cue that "Fast Show" character) You've haven't seen me, right?

Now that is a forum with 87x as many registered members as on VV. So perhaps you're not alone out there in your overall views, WM!

Thirdly:

 .... but can you remember where you left it? :o    :P

 And finally, if you want more posts from the Ostrich, now the soccer season's about to start, I can always plant a regular note of my weekly adventures watching non-league footie in the Shed board, but somehow I don't think you folk would necessarily be a "captive audience" ....    :P

Exactly Saundra, nor would I!
My cousin L, the one who's coming down for a day next week, is a lovely, lovely woman who I know would fit in here beautifully.
She's chatty and funny...but she knows me and all the rest of my family, I don't want to have to start wondering if it's ok to say something or not ;)

I notice the slowdown every year over your summer. I call them "the dark months" as its my winter when I get more time to post.

As for where was I? Nursing a six year old with screaming ear pain.

As the baby of the group I do wish there were a few here who were my age, maybe one or two in my neck of the woods so we could chat rather than always coming in late to the conversation. But like the others have said, this is my sacred space, where I can talk freely and not have to worry about what i say coming back into rl. I have to say I absolutely hate it now that my brother has joined fb, everytime I post anything there now I get a phone call from him that evening and then one from my mother. I'm about to disable my account it's driving me crazy.

Oh, that's not good Weka. Can you make another persona up?

How's the patient today? Hope the ear is better - that really is one of the worst pains there is. Hugs for you both xx or bejinhos, as we say over here bjs for short xx

Oh Weka, that would drive me bananas  I have a LOT of family on my FB now, so watch what I say on there far far more than I do on here - that's why nobody in my family or friends apart from M and B knows about VV, and I like it that way ;) xxx
