Two weeks in a hotel is a push for me, I much prefer a nice self-catering apartment 8-) :)
But with a bar :D
Or of course a hotel but with a mini-kitchen :)

I done camping on a school trip circa 1975.

All was going well until the night I woke up, saw what I thought was a mousey thing, grabbed my hiking boots and battered it to death.

In the morning we discovered I had murdered a Brillo pad!!

I do like staying in hotels but only for a few nights at a time...for say 2 weeks I'd go self catering.

Or my dream of dreams...round the world in a camper van. :D :D :D

I can handle two weeks in a hotel but I suppose that when we stay in them we're out for the majority of the time and only really using them to sleep, wash and get breakfast

Any decisions have been made.
He's adamant that he doesn't want to go to North Cornwall this year and to be honest I can't be bothered with the faff of it all. We were emailing each other throughout the afternoon, he had suggestions of where to go.
Scottish cottage (he won't give up on that!!)
Edinburgh (they camp, I stay in a hotel or B&B)
The Lakes
Scottish Islands
Weekend near Calais
Leave Billy with his Mom, fly from Cardiff to Spain
Ditto - Cardiff to Ireland
Ferry to Ireland, stay in a cottage (the ferry alone was coming in at £425!)
His friend Steve's holiday house in Looe
He stays home, I take the boys to Disneyland Paris

So....he and the boys are going to do some camping and I'm going to find somewhere to take them (or just Joe if Tom doesn't want to come) which will involve getting on a plane and flying to a city somewhere for a couple of days while John stays home with Billy. Might be later this year or early next, depending on Tom and his A level schedule and what he has on during school holidays seeing as we're not allowed to book any days off during term time now.

Try the lakes Jo. If you go further north like we do, near Wastwater, it is much less commercialised (to the point that it just isn't!!) and the walking is fab.

Self catering cottage all the way for me. I like to have the odd night in a hotel but I like the freedom of a cottage. And cooking whilst on holiday doesn't bother me - as long as I get the odd day off!!

I think we have decided on Whitby. The cottage is two beds, newly converted and looks lovely. It's actually up on the moors nearer Robin Hoods Bay but has a pub (with fab reviews opposite) and only 19 minute drive from Whitby. Me, S and Mick want Whitby. l wants Seascale (the other cottage in the Lakes). I was a little torn as the setting of the Seascale one is fab - right on the beach- but I really fancy going somewhere different this year. So I'm just waiting to hear how much deposit she wants and we will book one or the other tonight. The Whitby one is Friday to Friday which is a pain but I'm hoping it's an inset day. If not they might both suddenly have an orthodontist appointment that afternoon!!!!

So that's all our holidays sorted. Norfolk at end of March with mum, dad, sis and BIL (we're splitting that three ways so it's only costing us £250 for the four of us), Cornwall in August and either Whitby or the Lakes in October.
Life begins at the end of your comfort zone!

Good job we're all different. 8-)

Snap!!!! I went camping for a week once when I was about 12, with the Guides. It rained non stop and our tents flooded........it put me off both camping and the Guides for life :P

Mick and I look forward to our week in Corfu, it is so beautiful and relaxing and we don't have to lift a finger! I've done many many self catering holidays over the years and don't really find it restful :?

We haven't booked a week in Devon this year yet and nothing has been said.....................I don't think it will happen. I enjoyed it last year, so did Becks and Harry but I don't think Mick did, in fact he was so grumpy it almost spoiled it. I would take them away by myself but can't really afford to - this year is turning into a 'tight' year with all the expenses of uni :?
