LOL, Jo, and just down the coast, Aberdyfi (Aberdovey) has always been traditionally known as Sutton-Coldfield-By-The-Sea for the number of expats there ......

Lissie, all the places we went to as kids are "the best". As well as Rhyl, we alternated with Boscombe (Bournemouth) and Sandown (Isle of Wight) .... happy days. My father used to have the traditional 2 weeks "works Summer holiday" when the whole plant closed down, and Birmingham Snow Hill station on the Saturday morning was chaos with holiday steam trains going north or south every 10 minutes or so ..... :D

Our luggage was always sent on ahead by rail courier a few days before - and it was always waiting for us to collect at the luggage office at our destination station.

I would love to see the northern lights, it's my one regret that I didn't get to see them while in your neck of the woods.
After that I would head to Croatia, then stop off in Canada on my way back. The last leg of the journey would be spending a month or more kicking around the South Island in a campervan.

We've cruised the Nile from Luxor to Aswan and then Lake Nasser to Abu Simbel and there was this bit left to do of this wondrous river from Cairo to Luxor but it will be a very long time, if ever, that I would feel safe enough to return to Egypt or anywhere in the Middle East since The Arab Spring.

"It has been 15 years since any tourist has had the privilege of sailing up the Nile from Cairo to Luxor. Due to concerns over the water levels in this part of the river, cruises ceased in 1997. The cruises are now back up and running and passengers now have the opportunity to visit the limestone temple of Abydos, the tombs of Beni Hassan and the chapels and shrines of the Denderah Temple. Be one of the first to visit these wonderful parts of the Nile once more!"

So my choice is New Zealand both cruising and road trip.

You know - I've never been to the New Forest.

I have one of my dream holidays coming up. In fact, a week today we will be getting ready to set off to Gosforth. My little piece of heaven - lazy mornings, lazy afternoons and lazy evenings! Walks on the beach with the dog (okay, they aren't particularly pretty beaches, but hey, its a beach), walks around Wastwater, meals out at the Gosforth Hall and lots of sitting around reading, knitting and watching tv in front of a lovely fire. Sheer bliss.

My ideal hot holiday would probably be Crete - I love it there. Out in the villages rather than in the resorts. I don't like resorts - far too touristy. I'd much rather be somewhere where there is a villa with a pool, a nice beach not too far away and a couple of decent tavernas frequented by locals - where the menu isn't displayed in photographs and they don't serve English breakfast washed down with real ale whilst you watch the footie on the giant screens!!

It would be by air to New Zealand and then a cruise round the coasts as I could never cross an ocean in a boat. Never!
