Kaz, I sat talking to an American man last night who was interested about the budget this week and asked if it made us better off...he was amazed to hear about things like how we have to pay for a TV licence, couldn't believe that there was a 40% tax bracket (a married couple would pay 15% on anything up to around £47,000 in the US, 25% after that up to, would you believe £93000 when 28% kicks in), that we're taxed on things like private healthcare which companies provide (ie John pays tax on the BUPA his company provide, in the US this is seen as a benefit and isn't taxable), that we have 20% VAT but where he lives in Indiana the sales tax is just 7%, then there were petrol and household fuel prices....
