Blimey Vic! How do people feel about that?

The town where I live has run out of burial space so it's either cremation or be buried in a cemetery 8 miles away which is out in the middle of nowhere and only accessible by car. A lot of old people around here don't drive and have no easy way of getting to their loved one's graves.
There's a large council-run golf course here, which is on land which was a gift to the people of the town, and it's beyond me why a portion of that can't be used for burials especially as it's just a 5 minute walk from the now full cemetery, is close to the town but also on a bus route and part of it is at the end of Cemetery Rd!

That is quick, but then the two/three weeks between my mum and dad dying and their funerals was horrible, so perhaps they have it right Ally xxxxxxx

That's what I was going to say when I read Ally's post.
The time between losing a loved one and their funeral here seems to be getting longer and it's horrible waiting for that day to come isn't it...so yes, maybe they have it right there.
My thoughts are with Lidia and her family xx

Jo a friend of mine in the UK lost her mum just over a week ago and has to wait almost 3 weeks before the funeral.

When Con passed away it was 3 days before Ramadan and Judi was told 'due to many deaths occurring during Ramadan, particularly amongst the elderly population,' Con's funeral could be held up because the death certificate would be delayed in being processed.

Thank God Don knew someone who could help and after phone calls the situation was resolved quite quickly.

Ally thank goodness Don knew someone.............I'm amazed actually about the Ramadan thing as I though the elderly, pregnant, very young and poorly were exempt from the fasting, but maybe some of them do it anyway I try very hard to be respectful of people's religious observances, but that one has always struck me as a bit dicey

We all get buried here, no choice in the matter. But if you want to be dug up in about 5 years, then you're put in the family vault.

If you don't have one, they will move you anyway - something I need to find out about.

We have one crematorium in Portugal. There is talk of another one, but money is tight at the moment.

When my uncle died earlier this year it was over 2 weeks before his funeral.

I know that there always used to seem to be a delay with Winter funerals, I think because of frozen ground, but a wait of a couple of weeks seems to be becoming the norm here now

Hmmm, there are pluses and minuses I think.
If it's the same day, or within a very few days, there are often people who would really like to be there but can't.
But 2 or 3 weeks is hard too, a week-10 days would probably be ideal.
