Thanks everyone. It looks as bad as this morning as it did last night. Hubby is ringing the insurance company now, so hopefully it will be sorted out nice and quickly, but I'm not holding my breath. I expect there to b a bit of a delay due to the earthquakes and staff assigned to Wellington stuff at the moment.

We have decided that they were trying to steal the car rather than take contents like the stereo. As they would have just smashed the window. We have both had that happen to us before, come back to find the window smashed and radio gone.

Such a good car for not letting them in. Think we might treat her to an open road drive or a wax and polish when she's all fixed up. I would have been scrambling for car seats right now had it been stolen as we have to pick up the kids soon.
Ironically another car would be easier to shake out of a tree (so to speak)
It could have been worse

Does your car have an alarm. We have a motion sensor so that if a window is broken or a door is opened the alarm will go off. Very loud as I have set it off inadvertently.

Cruiser how silly is this, we don't know if it has an alarm or not. We have never heard it cry out though. It does have an engine imboliser and the key needs to be near it before you can turn the engine knob (where a key would go). It is a "flash" system that uses a proxy card to unlock the car via a button on the door handle. If you don't have the proxy card closer than half a meter away from the button it won't unlock, so impossible to open the door. There is an actual key, I guess for when the battery in the proxy card goes flat (yes it really does have one). And I think somehow it is this system that is the reason that we still have a car. I really hope they can replace it as I've grown to adore it. I keep the card in my wallet. It has saved me twice already from loosing my wallet as both times I went from the shop to the car and the car wouldn't open, so back to the shop, picked up my wallet from the counter, and back to the car.

A lady at playcentre had the same car and system and I had to show her how to use it. She was using the silly little key that clips into the card.  8-) Once she understood it, she loved it too

Really awful Weka, so glad that nothing was taken though, and I hope the insurance will soon be sorted without any hassle.
