thanks Frank - just tried that test, and apparently I don't suffer from hearing loss. Obviously yay, but I do agree that I do need to get this seen to sooner rather than later. I'll make a GP appointment and see what they say. As a matter of interest, how did they fix the partially collapsed eustachian tube?

Hi Ria, good news about no hearing loss.

The fix was like a probe up my nose, through a sinus and into the tube. Not sure what happened then, a rinse and a stretch perhaps, followed by a three month course of a steroidal nasal spray that smelled like cat pee. Thankfully nobody else could smell it, only me, but it has worked.

My balance, which had been a bit wobbly, is now back to something like normal. That was my concern for you as blocked ears can play havoc with your balance. Good luck with the GP.

Kaz, I have tinnitus due to many years working with very loud jet aircraft. It is a constant ringing or whistling in your ears. It is not generally dangerous but it can lead some to become distracted by it. I have taught myself to ignore it and that works. Well it does until someone (you) mentions it. ;)

Saundra, I get bottles of Eucalyptus oil - same as Olbas but without the marketing and only half the price.

When I am getting the snuffles a few drops on my pillow gets me a good night's block-free sleep. Same on a hanky sees me through the day.

My sister-in-law does micro-suction ear wax removal Saundra and charges similar.... and she has to. That money covers the costs of the training she's had to undergo (the course isn't cheap), the equipment she had to buy and has to maintain, the travel to the patient and then also her time. It's a very fair charge for a good service.

The NHS just cannot afford to offer every treatment for free; it's just not feasible. Something somewhere has to give, and unfortunately ear wax is one of them.
