Emails are one thing and can easily be deleted. Cards by Royal Mail are another thing - they are not from RM, just delivered by them. Scammers use the RM because it is trustworthy. Scams basically work on two things: our naivety / lack of knowledge or our desire for money for nothing (greed).

The first group I have some sympathy for, the second - none at all. A lot of people scam themselves as they are gamblers and chancers. Hard lines.

I do vaguely remember a card through the door
About missed delivery but it was for a business and a gimmick if I'm sure but ages ago
The post office one was an email I had several all deleted

In the world of security in IT, the number 1 insecure device is the telephone and the human at the other end of it. Socially engineered phone calls are the #1 avenue to hack into systems.

Hence the royal mail becoming a transport for socially engineered fraud.
