Shell, you either buy a Now TV box (they're really cheap) or there's an app on our smart TV. It's basically Sky (it's a Sky company) with no contract. For example, you can pay £9.99 a month (I think) for movies, you just stream them when you want. The day pass we used to buy lasted 24 hours, gave us access to all Sky Sports channels and was £6.99. They do a one week pass too or you can pay for a month.

The offer we had came through the post, no haggling required.

No real idea tbh, Shell, as I have never used it... there will be someone on here who has it, surely.

I do read on F1 sites that people get it for £7 on a day pass for F1 races, but t hat is all I know.

We haven't got a smart TV I will look at the box. Is it available on Amazon or just through Sky?

The local Asda sells both Now and Now Smart boxes so I guess they can be bought just about anywhere. You can also watch Now on a computer without any box at all.

Shell I am glad you asked this - I'm having a similar dilemma, but slightly further on than you. I saw your post on FB but I can't really offer much in the way of advice so I didn't respond, sorry xx

We bought a Fire stick (amazon) for about £35 and John has downloaded the kodi app to it. We were really looking forward to being able to ditch the very pricey Sky package we have (currently multi-room with entertainment package, no sport, no movies, monthly bill £49.50!)

BUT BUT BUT

We need to upgrade our BB as we started to watch a film from the Kodi app and we got ten minutes in and the film stopped streaming, frozen picture, no sound. BB is currently TalkTalk BB only, not Fibre optic (or whatever is the fastest) so will need to organise that. At least I am HOPING that's what it is.

Before we got the Fire stick, I intended buying a Sports NOW TV box, but the guy in Currys dissuaded me as he said it can work out really expensive to pay for.

So I'm still shelling out the £50 a month for Sky until such time we know we can focus on the Fire stick (which can be moved from telly to telly) Of course I'll still get Freesat even without a Sky contract, so basic stuff, which may mean I have ti then buy a recorder (humax?) as we currently have Skyplus and tend to record everything so we can watch when we want to.

Sigh......so many things to consider.....

Shell, I just looked on Now's website and they charge £14.99 for the box and then you just have to buy a pass as and when you need it.
I agree with Gal though that if you're going to stream anything, be it from a Firestick, computer or a box, you need a good internet download speed. We couldn't even think about Now or Netflix or anything like that until we upgraded to fibre.

Ok To be honest for 11 Grand Prix and the occasional football match I am not sure it is worth all the hassle.

This is typical me, I like the idea of something but the effort outweighs the benefits
