It just flashed up on the news, Jo. Poor woman.

We appear to have had the calm eye of the storm pass over us. The winds are no worse than normal and the rain is fairly light, persistent but light.

We had heavy rain and strong winds in the night. The rain had slackened off when I went shopping this morning.
I can now see blue skies as I look out of the window. Still breezy.
My mother's name was Doris.
Was using our wet/dry vacuum cleaner in the garage this afternoon when it decided it had had enough. Sparks and smoke from the motor unit on top. Quickly switched off and unplugged. We have had it for many years. Have looked on the internet and the model is no longer being produced.
Have ordered a new one from another company. Got 5% discount as I am a new customer. Hopefully it will be delivered on Saturday.

Rodo,
Did you know that you can now buy plastic fence panels. Have seen them at a local plastic supply company. Tey look good and will never need painting. I would consider them if I had to replace any of ours.

My S. has gradually replaced all her back fencing with those plastic panels. Basically, you need to put in 6' concrete posts which have slots down the side, correctly space them apart, and then you just slide the plastic panels down into the slots - they're horizontal panels, so 5 or 6 do the job between each pair of posts. They are maintenance-free, I believe, quite attractive, and I'd give them consideration over wooden ones. Price-wise, I think they were quite competitive.

The old rickety fence between us and the neighbours survived the storm thankfully, although it was giving a pretty good impression of an accordion when the winds were at their height .... :D
