Both of those young women were lucky to have kind, decent men around to help! It does make me worry about B travelling around on public transport, I'll be a lot happier once she passes her test!

That's a lovely story Jo; well done to the people who cared.

Vic, really sorry that some idiot dropped you so far from your destination.

Kaz, it's a worry isn't it. I've seen first hand what the trains from Birmingham are like at night so it makes me reluctant to use them after a certain time. Last time I travelled late (well, not particularly late; around 8.30) it was really rowdy and a lot got off at my station, meaning I was having to walk up to town with them to make my way home which wasn't pleasant. There was another woman who'd got off and she waited for me at the exit and asked if I'd mind walking with her as she was feeling a bit vulnerable so we walked into town and across to the other side together.

Well done both WM and Jo's folk ....

Like pretty much every profession, some bus drivers are really good, others are just jobsworths. Although it should perhaps be borne in mind that the attitude of some bus companies' management teams leaves a great deal to be desired, and drivers can be forced into being jobsworths because to stray outside "the rules" can mean disciplinary action ultimately leading of course to dismissal. If you see a bus company constantly advertising jobs and recruiting, you might want to ask yourself what conditions the staff are working under are like ...

Wasn't going to reply to the OP...but I need to say this.

Don travels to Birmingham every 9/10 weeks to visit his mum and always get the bus. (So do I when I/we visit together)

And I think I can say Brummy bus drivers have almost always been very helpful, kind and cheery! :D

Just thought I'd post a positive note. :D

What I said was also positive! It was comparing the OP with Jo's tale of the drunk the young girl and how the driver and passengers (John and friend) dealt with it.
