I've seen the dispensers around the hospital before, at entrances to wards and departments, but they're just there with no invitation to use them but the ones on Friday had a large sign by them which I'm sure I would've spotted when we were there last month.

Same here Jo. We've visited hospitals many times over the last few years and hardly ever seen the dispensers used.

According to NHS Choices:
Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water, particularly after using the toilet and before preparing food. Don't rely on alcohol hand gels, as they do not kill the virus.

And because bacteria reproduce exponentially killing 99.9% means they can be back to their old level in minutes, or a few hours at most.

Stay safe Kaz, and wash your hands before putting them in your mouth.

I used the dispenser on the way in and on the way out and washed my hands with hot water and soap as soon as I could.

I was early for my appointment but they buzzed me straight in and out, without hanging around in the dermatology reception, so I think I should be fine :)
