Diesel

Our new car is diesel. I had no idea just how much you can save until now
It costs more, but this car does on average 66mpg
On a very rough reckoning, we'll be saving at least £700 a year

Why did I not know this before??

I know! We don't have a diesel, but hired one when D had to go to Dublin with work. We filled up before leaving home and drove there and back on one tankful.

And even better, over here, the annual tax is less

So why did we buy a petrol car

Diesel is great, but only if you drive longer distances. My journey to the station is 5 miles each way so it's really not worth it for me.

I have been plugging mine on here for some time a TDi with no road tax! Engine maintenance is more expensive though.

It wouldn't ahve been worth it when I had my own car either, I used to do about 4,000 a year usually.
But Bb does about 12-14,000 a year for work, a lot of it shortish distances. He pays for the fuel and gets mileage paid, so we're onto a winner

Not a big fan of Diesel, but hey-ho. I can understand why it is popular, though, esp in cases such as Bb's. The mileage payments v cost of fuel will more than cover servicing costs. My Bil gets a free holiday for the two of them out of his mileage payments.

We didn't go looking for diesel WM, it was just the cheapest, best-value car we found
As for the mileage - hmm, that would be nice. We don't make anything out of it, we need it to pay for the fuel and the car's running costs - and to live on

Mick is a huge fan of diesel and wanted my new car to be diesel because of it being more economic to run on the whole. He always has diesels.

Me - I think about the important things when buying a new car. The colour, the type of interior (I'm a leather girl), the size of the sun roof, the volume of the stereo..........

The economics of a car come well down on my list of priorities. I'm such a girl.
