Pre-pay SIM cards

Postby meriad » 26 Sep 2014, 09:22

OK, my fault really but...

I rather stupidly left my mobile at my brothers house last night when I was there to "baby" sit. I'm not meeting up with Nadine again until tomorrow but figured I'd simply pop to the shop today and get a pre-pay SIM for my old mobile and use that for today and tomorrow, esp as I'll need the phone anyway when my niece arrives for a few days over Christmas so she doesn't use her German mobile and she's planning on spending a day or two mooching about London and will need to be able to contact me.

But having had a quick look on the internet it seems that all prepays for smart phones that use data only offer "monthly" prepays. So for £10 I can get a SIM that has data, minutes and text messages which is great, but they only are valid for 30 days - so (if I understand it right) whatever I don't use up in those 30 days I lose and I then I need to get another 30 day SIM package. All I need / want is something that I can use until the credit runs out and then top up - I don't want another set monthly cost I don't really need

I'll walk up to car phone warehouse shortly and see what they have on offer - rather annoying really

I'm probably wrong here but I have an unlocked iPhone so can use any SIM in it. I decided to go with Tesco Mobile so just picked up a SIM at the checkout and I use it as Pay As You Go. What I love about Tesco is that if I top up £10 they then add an extra £20 credit onto it - the £20 has to be used in a month but the £10 stays there until you use it up, and you eat into the free credit before the credit you paid for is touched - and any data used can either come out of the £10 or you can buy a data bundle which will last a month, I think 500GB is about £5.

The beauty of unlocked or sim-free phones, Jo. I refuse to have anything else.

I have a hand cranked mobile phone. Well, it looks like that compared to the new smart phones. It is Payasygo. I get £10 credit which will last about two months. Am not going to change as I do not ned or want any of the extras on the new phones. At present I am with Vodaphone and have not had any problems. Got a torquoise cover so that I can see it easily.
