Wow, I be you're glad it's not your problem. Hopefully though something is put into place asap so whoever fills the role in the interim (you said the senior teacher? ) has all the support she needs and that they soon find someone else to take the roll full time / shared and with minimum disruption to the children and the rest of the school year.
