Why don't you Google the new company, and see what people are saying about their cover? That's usually worth doing ;)

Saundra, if you tell them you have had a much lower quote, they often match it because they don't want to lose you.

The other thing I have done in the past is go on to the website for the current company and see what they are offering new customers. It is generally a lot lower, then ring them and tell them you want it for that price. I did that for my MIL, she was with Saga, and though they didn't quite match the new customer price, they got pretty close to it and that was considerably less than she would have paid if she had just automatically renewed it.

It is always worth a bash at it.

Saundra,
We have our house insurance through John Lewis. Have made one small claim which was quickly settled. May be not the cheapest but good cover and one million sum insured for both buildings and contents. So no need to worry about being under insured. Some policies only give £50,000 for contents which coud mean you are under insured. Just do a quick calculation and you will be surprised at the figure.
It also includes cover for emergencies, such as blocked drains electrical problems and water leaks. Have a look at their web site.

That's right, Sandra. I remember once that when my annual renewal was due I ran
up the insurance company because I wanted to add cover for some expensive item we
had just bought. Before I had a chance to say anything about it, I was was told of an
alternative policy which would save me quite a large amount of cash.

As Molly says, It always pays to ask.

I just did that with my car Molly. £30 cheaper for a new one online and they then matched it. :D
