"I wonder what would happen if...."

"I put a corn kernel up my nose?"

I'm sure that was what Oliver was thinking last night, or perhaps it was more along the lines of "will it fit?" or "hehe I can trick mum into thinking i've eaten my corn"

what ever it was that he was thinking, it went up, and there it stayed. Thankfully he told me straight away that that was what he had done. I couldn't get it out though, it was too far back. My tweezers weren't long enough, and anything else I tried was only pushing it further back. We tried blowing it out, sucking it out, floating it out...... it was stuck, So off to A&E we went. After trying not to laugh, the lovely doctor pulled it out in about 1 minute flat with these really nifty looking long handle tweezers. Then to his disgust, she jabbed him with a MMR immunisation. (well to be fair to Oliver, he was the bravest boy I have ever seen getting an injection, he didn't even squeak, nor flinch  he's braver than me, but don't tell him that :D )

what is it with kids and sticking things up their noses?

Glad he's OK though and brave boy re the immunisation. Have to ask though - MMR at A&E? Would that not be done by his regular paedeatrician?

The a&e I went too also doubles as a normal gp practice as well, just not our normal practice. We have a national database, and each child has a well child book (that lists all their immunisations, dates, batches. + height, weight, and any health anythings. Kind of like taking your notes with you. It means you can go anywhere. At his age though the well child book is pretty much only for immunisations, it gets filled out with the other stuff when they are babies).

The national database means the authorities can keep track of the immunisations, and the book is mums record, if that makes sense. It also means the data will be automatically fed into my gp's records for my child. (I know cause I helped set all this up 16 years ago, though I'm sure it's far more streamlined now and doesn't involve dial up modems and floppy disks lol)

Normally they are done at our regular gp surgery, and definately not at night, but like the gp last night said, the hospital is around the corner if I'm worried about anything, and they are open 24 hours. He's never had a reaction, unlike his sister. The MMR jab is on the 4 year old schedule, he's still 3, but according to the immunisation board, is able to be given at his age. We have a bit of a mini measels outbreak in my area, so I wanted to get him done so he was fully protected, but my gp for unknown reasons wasn't jumping at the opportunity, (I had had Sasha done early too due to identical reasons) so when they offered last night, I said yes please. Just as well I had the well child book. :D

Perhaps Oliver was thinking "I`ll bet Mum has fun getting it out" :) Don`t recall any nose insertions but I do remember some bother removing a small pebble from an ear canal.

Ah, that makes sense Weka

From memory there was talk here in the UK about having a national database with everyone's health records on there which I thought at the time made huge sense, because then if ever there's an emergency your records can be accessed by whatever health professional right away. But I think there was huge concern about data protection (lots of people with all this data being daft and leaving memory sticks on tubes / in cabs / losing laptops etc  :o ) so I don't think it really ever took off. I think :?

All kids in the UK have a red book (or did when mine were little) that belongs to mum, and has everything in it from birth until 5 years old - dates, weights, measurements, immunisations, development check-ups, the works ;) :)

Weka, Becky once put a teeny tiny plastic toy from a Sylvanian Family play set up her nose!!!! The doc tried almost everything in A&E, and poor B was about to be referred for a minor procedure under anaesthetic to remove it, when one last try finally dislodged it!   She never did it again :P ;)

My well child book sounds very similar to your red book.

The national database is only the immunisation records. However there is a pilot running at the moment for all records. I think it's a fab idea. The only thing I can see a problem is if you go somewhere for a second opinion on a diagionisis, I wouldn't want another doctors notes to sway a decision.
