My works internet restrictions!

Postby debih » 30 Apr 2014, 11:09

Our internet access is restricted at work. We cannot go on any non work related sites during our core hours (10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm) and there is some programme in place that stops us accessing them.

At non core hours we are allowed on (if we are on our lunch breaks or before clocking in) but the firewalls are still set up for certain things.

I have just gone to post a response on Saundra's thread about dry skin on the Health board. I was allowed to read the thread but when I clicked on reply I had a message come up telling me that I was not allowed to access this page as it contains po r n o graph ic content!

Saundra - I wil reply to your thread when I get home!

Some of the filters are a bit bonkers.

I remember one night a group of us on the DM boards writing our posts in html to get round things, so posts such as:

Penistone is not in Essex

You cannot cocoon yourself....

Weightwatchers is a good slimmer's site

started to appear, only for them to get zapped as a human being read them.

Then came the e-mails from the Lama and Dove warning us...

Debih,
I thought the idea of going to work was to be industrious, not looking at VV and other web sites.

I do enjoy reading your posts and wonder what the next calamity will be.

Has this suddenly happened?
Is there any reference to this in your conditions of employment?
How did you find out about it? Did you receive a notice that you could not use the internet for personal use?

It's nothing new Cruiser - its always happened. It makes me laugh at what it terms rude. We can't go on Facebook, Twitter, etc but can go on most other sites - VV is generally fine, it's just the odd post it classes as rude. My work colleague, who is rather on the large side, rides (it's a big horse) and she can't get on the website she buys her riding clothes from..... Fuller Fillies. Our restriction thing seems to think it contains items of a sexual nature.

I often have to wait until non core hours to go on some websites even to do work stuff as the restrictions are so tight. It's easier to wait until 12 than fill in all the paperwork asking for access to a site I need for work.

And I do have a lunch break you know. I don't have to be industrious then. :? :D
