That made me jump

Postby miasmum » 18 Apr 2014, 16:40

We have decided to use the chickens to clear an area of garden that has become overgrown with some strange weed I can't identify. So we built them an enclosure and tried to get them in, would they go in? NO. So I went to get the bag of porridge oats I use at night to get them in. I keep it in their food bin. I picked it up ran back down the garden, put my hand in to get some oats and thought :? :? :? what was that???????? Pulled hand out, peered in bag and there looking up at me was a mouse   I did swear but I didn't scream. I carried the bag back up the garden and let him go in the wood pile. It was a house mouse not a wood mouse so I know I should have despatched him, but you can't can you, they are cute :P

I am just relieved he didn't bite me as he must have been scared even before this big hand came in and started rummaging around his dinner

He would have bitten me on my right hand, which is the side with the compromised lymph nodes so I would have had to go to A&E and get antibiotics and no doubt a tetanus jab.

I'd have jumped too - but you're right, they are cute :D

Now make a mental note to try and use the other hand first, I do know it's awkward but you do get used to it ;)

I see them quite often over the common and they make me jump everytime, they're very cute though! :D

Unlike the rat who was staring at me when I opened the understairs cupboard door in our old house to get the hoover out. I screamed, swore (lots) and slammed the door
