For quite a few years now I've been designing my own Christmas card and sending it via email , FB and forums (and yes you on VV will be subjected to it as well in due course ;) ) and making a donation to a charity. I do print off about 10 to give to a few neighbours, the milkman, postman etc but that's about it in the way of 'hard copies'.

And I still receive proper Christmas cards from quite a few friends despite them only ever getting e-cards from me. But they know me and know that the cause(s) I support are important to me.

I've only ever had one complaint about the e-card vs proper card but that was from a rather odd person (make it very odd person) who for various other reasons - not just the card - is now someone I don't have any contact with any more.

Saundra, I suspect the reason a lot of people do donations to charities this time of year is because they get paid a Christmas bonus so can afford to. And I give because I want to; not because I've received a begging letter

A few years ago in a place I worked someone said they were donating instead of doing cards but I still gave a card.

I posted about 14 cards this year and wrote them early so I could send 2nd class, which I have to say was still quite expensive but I like to send some cards :)

I bought a card holder that hangs over the living room door, it was looking very bare but now its full, family cards I keep on the tv unit, table etc. Although I did send less cards to family, I used to go out and buy mum & dad, sister and bro in law, nephew, niece etc, this year they all got 1 card and it was the card Amy made (with my help), the only 'special' card I bought was for Amy!
