Insurance con men!!!

Postby Workingman » 30 Aug 2013, 14:49

I went online for my motorbike insurance and got a quote for fully comp at £134.74.

When I phoned up it went up to £305.81 because I had used my full car no claims online and it cannot be transferred to a bike. That's still not bad for 15 months fully comp, and that's the only insurance I have ever used.

Today the paperwork came through..... £495.02, and that is with a £900.00 excess payment!!!!! This includes £110.00 Broker's fee, 79.81 credit at £19.05 per £100 for DD payments, plus a deposit of 41.58 (already paid). :o :o

I am going to use this policy in order to pick the bike up on Monday and then I am going to invoke the 14 day cooling off period and cancel.

The bloody cheek of them. :x :x :x

WM,
What sort of bike is it and how many miles do you do a year.
Am renewing my car insurance in the next two weeks. It has come down by nearly 5% from last year and that is with the same company and the same car. So shop around as most insurance companies want new business.

Ped... 'er off. :-P :-P :-P

Cruiser, it's a brand new Honda SH125i with ABS. I will only be using it on short runs for shopping, visiting and pottering about etc. I did shop around, and the quote I got over the phone was reasonable - as good as any. It was only when the papers came through that the add-ons were revealed. That is what has got me so wound up. I am now shopping around again.

There are people out there who would be blind-sided by all the reams of paperwork, or don't read the small print and just accept it, in which case the con men get away with it. :x :x :x

Hope you manage to find it cheaper - that's a lot of hidden add-ons isn't it :x
