I wonder why people do the things they do? The scale of destruction is horrendous just because someone thought what they were doing is OK, that they were above the law, it wouldn't get so bad? Why???? :cry: :cry: :cry: I really hope they catch the person who did this and throw the book at him / her / them

Glad you're safe Vic and thank goodness they managed to evacuate that hospital. My heart goes out to the family of the fireman who lost his life :cry:

Happens every year - bonkers, the lot of them.

That's one of the reasons why we're not moving further oop north. They have the worst fires every year, because of the stupidity of some people and also the trees. They burn so easily.

There are volunteers who drive around these forests, to check for arson and things like glass bottles etc. In parts of the Alentejo, by the fir trees, you are not allowed bbq's in the height of summer.

AND our fire brigade is mostly volunteer too - same as Madeira.
