Wellington

If hubby had had to stay in Wellington last night, this is what he would have faced

Still so pleased he got home by them swapping aircraft and not just cancelling his flight and telling him to come back later.

It's not called windy Wellington for no reason, but even this sounds extreme for them.

Here in auckland we had a violent thunderstorm come through not so long ago which I see has brought trees down and damaged a couple of houses. It sounded like a freight train rumbling by for about an hour

Crumbs !!

That sounds like a terrific storm.

The weather seems to be going to pot all over the world.

Glad hubby missed it,

Heck Weka - I'm really glad he managed to get home yesterday.

NZ is really being battered again :(. Is it mainly the North Island that's being hit or is the South having a hard time as well? As Aggers says; the weather all over the world is just mad

Now you see why I was so anxious for him to get home. The airport has been closed quite a bit since he got home.

Wellington is at the very bottom of the north island, they got hit pretty hard with high winds. I saw one picture on twitter of a fish lying on the footpath outside someone's garage.

The South Island has been hit hard with snow. 1m over night at mt hutt, with more coming. I really wish I was snowboarding this year, the snow on the mountains is amazing!

There has been lots of flooding in in the south island especially in Christchurch and Dunedin. Christchurch's storm water system still isn't fixed properly after the earthquakes.

So pleased he got home safe. It looks terrible.

I hadn't realised about the bad weather on South Island - I had better check that my SIL is okay. They live near Timaru (which in relation to Christchurch and Dunedin I have no idea where it is but I know they regularly visit both).

Timaru is about 2 hours drive south of Christchurch. So they will definitely have snow, and maybe some flooding earlier in the week. Hope they are safe and sound
