How does a fly....

Postby Workingman » 26 Aug 2021, 22:02

... whizz around the middle of the room for hours on end, only taking a break to pester you reading a book for a while, before going back to whizzing?

Don't they ever get tired or dizzy? They never land, just whizz.

Mine actually follows me to the kitchen when I make a cuppa..... then it's whizz, whizz, whizz: pester.

They love us, Saundra, they are our friends, but annoying ones.

Mine is Brian. ;)

I’d like to know how they manage to find the open door or window to get in easily enough but can’t seem to find it to get out.

Bees, wasps and bluebottles are the main culprits.

They get in and then spend the rest of the day banging their heads against the window when there is this huge opening to the outside world just to their left or right - the one they used to get in! :o :o

I open a window.

They have 3 minutes to get out (10 seconds if they're a wasp) and I will give them every assistance in achieving this with a handy tea towel.

If they don't, sorry, they get squashed.

(As an aside, that's the reason they go whizzing around the middle of the room for hours on end. Inbuilt dipterian instinct to avoid getting squashed ......)

But they never seem to get tired....

With bees I let walk on to my finger then flick them out of the window. Wasps I trap in a jar and a card then let them out - they are pollinators after all. Bottles just get zapped.

It seems to be moths here, this year! Loads of the little beggars :x I've sprayed our wardrobes, and put up some so-called moth traps that I bought, but they're still about
