I don't mind the name Archie for a kid, but as he grows up - seriously? Jo - as a matter of interest; was Archie your great uncle's proper registered name or was it short for something or a nick name? Just curious because I struggle with Archie as an adult name

I have no idea Ria, he was always Uncle Archie or Uncle Arch. His grave is right behind my Nan and Grandad’s grave but it’s lettering has faded a lot and I can’t picture what it says for the life of me. I’m there every couple of weeks though so I’ll make a point of looking next time.

I think that Archie was once the short form of Archibald but that in modern times it has become a name in its own right, in the same vein as Charlie and Rod, Penny and Ellie.

Archie is OK(ish) and is sort of a "safe" compromise between traditional and modern.
