Three robberies on Christmas eve!!!

Postby Workingman » 30 Dec 2016, 14:49

I called in a local shop yesterday evening and I just made it as it was closing early. The shop was one of three robbed by three men, two with knives and the other with a metal bar truncheon. They are all in quiet streets just off the main road and were done one after the other in less than 30 minutes.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, but the tills, booze and cigs were all targeted. The perps have not been caught, yet, but the police have a group being watched.

The trouble is that NW Leeds divn is one of the biggest in area and since modernisation to make the police more efficient it now has only three fully manned super-stations. The nearest was about 3.5k away and through mainly estate streets.

Talking to J in the shop and she suspects a bit of a plan in all of this. Do the first then sit and wait for the police to turn up and be occupied then move on to the second and third.

Ah that makes sense. We're 'lucky' enough to still have a town centre police station but the front desk is a Mon-Fri 9-5 operation, closed for an hour over lunch and closed all weekend.
I think monitored CCTV is supposed to take the place of policing in the town centre but it can't be that effective seeing as Joe came home one evening last week and said that some drug dealers had offered him and his friends free samples while they walked across the main pedestrian area.
There's also the young lad who was attacked across the street from the police station one night almost two years ago and left with severe life-changing injuries.

We lost three local stations during the 'efficiency' drive.... one was only a few streets away from my local shop. It is now a restaurant, the others are a social services meeting place and a sports bar. Such is life.
