What a palaver!!

Postby Gal » 02 Jul 2016, 17:30

Those of you not on FB won't have heard the latest drama!

I only went and dropped my brand new two week old iPhone in the bath!!

I bunged it in a bag of rice and hoped thta would be enough, but everyone I spoke to said it would work for a bit (it did, but no sound whatsoever) but then as the water seeped into the components, it would go black. With jen's help I backed up everything on it on to the laptop (I'm not at all techy, and when it comes to aged laptops, nor is she!) but somehow we managed - took it to the apple store on Thursday and explained what happened and they said the only thing I could do was to replace it. So I had to fork out over £200 for a new one, which luckily I got the next day, and then restore all the backed up stuff back on to the phone. It was touch and go whether I could do it as Jen wasn't around yesterday, but I managed! PHEW!!!!

Next stop - insuring it!!

This, after all the fraud carry on!! I'm destined not to have a phone  :? *whistles*

What are you like? ;)

I have self-banned my phone from certain places: toilet and bathroom; anywhere near the kitchen sink or stove; trousers pockets, dashboard of the car and any lounge furniture, especially sofas.

This is the thing though WM, I have had a phone for the best part of 15 years now, and I have always taken it into the bath with me, I play quizzes and Twitter etc whilst in there, and have NEVER had any misfortune!

Typical that it happened so soon after replacing the old one

Gal. I am so clumsy that I have to be super careful, and besides, I always take showers, which kinda rules out a phone.

Ho Gal you are so clever all the backup stuff I wouldn't have a clue
I never take my kindle in the bathroom
Or near the kitchen sink
My granddaughter dropped hers in a tub of pot noodles
Son put the phone in a packet of rice for a few days and it survived
Can you claim on your house insurance I wonder

The deed is done now Saundra....I did look but my excess is more than the phone cost anyway - thanks for the suggestion though :)

It's a dear lesson....

I'm far too clumsy (seriously) to take mine anywhere near water, so never in the bathroom or loo, but understand how you might if you've always done it with no mishap! Expensive lesson Gal :( Really sorry this happened, especially on top of the other business :? :(

A friend dropped a brand new hearing aid teachers mic in a coffee cup the other day, all $2500 worth . Her hubby quickly turned it off, poured a glass of isopropyl alcohol and submerged it for a bit before spinning it in a grand circle for a bit, then left it to dry on the window sill. It live to tell the tale.

I'm on my 3rd(?) screen. Actually I've lost count. I replace them myself now. I just dropped it again last weekend, haven't done it for ages, but it had to be straight onto concrete didn't it, so I guess I know what I'm doing next weekend.
Everything happens for a reason
