Sounds like a nightmare of a journey Suff but whizzing past the traffic where the A1 was diverted must have been great. I remember when the A1 was the only main road to London out of Edinburgh. You are right, it is horrible in a car………does it still have millions of roundabouts? I haven't used that route for years.

Only 43 to the gallon……how much will you expect on your normal commute, which presumably will be done a little more sedately.

Are you still living north of the Forth?

How about a trip to the IOM? We have the TT circuit of almost 40 miles and the mountain section of about 12 miles is unrestricted as regards to speed, if you fancy a blow the cobwebs off sort of spin. all you need is the ability and it sounds like you have that.

Molly they removed the roudabouts over the last 2 decades. They finally removed the last one's up to Scotch Corner so it's roundabout free from south of Peterborough to Newcastle. Still a few in the south though.

I found the brakes were slightly jammed on last night and this morning. It would explain some of the lost fuel consumption. I'd expect circa 50mpg - 60mpg on my commute depending on the traffic. Most of it is top gear and between 40-60mph, so not much harsh acceleration. I do most of the journey ghosting in between cars and busses and trucks at 25mph - 40mph.

My journey to work this morning was 45 minutes. Down from a minimum of 1h50 up to a max of 2h30. Bike is now taxed and I've picked up the other helmet..

All I need now is a security lock to physically fix it to things and I'm done.

Manxie, I'd prefer my Kawasaki for that. I've never hat it over 135mph and I had some visions of getting it on the Autobahn with no panniers on but it never happened. Probably just as well....

Sadly free holiday time is reserved for the house and holidays with Mrs S..
