I've got a salad dressing with expired in October 14. Tasted fine last night.

Same here

I have a colleague who treats the use by / BB date of items in the fridge here at work as gospel and he'll happily throw anything and everything in the fridge that is even a nano second past the day; it drives me up the wall - such unnecessary waste! I'd love to know if he does that at home as well give that'll be his money he's throwing in the bin

When we open a jar of anything, we write on the label the 'use-by' date, and endeavour not to consume
the contents after that date. The problem then is that, if it is something that only one of us uses, such as
a particular variety of sauce, then we often find that we are throwing away more than we have consumed,
as we don't want to take any risk of adverse effects. I get the feeling that the use-by date is put on simply
to increase sales of the product, but we don't want to take any risks. Why aren't the products available in
smaller bottles to suit single users?
