Buying a new phone

I've been looking for a new phone for quite a while now. My Galaxy Note2 is 3 years old next month. But I'm looking for a phone with a bigger screen size. My Note2 has a 5.5" screen. Exactly the same size as the iPhone6 plus. I'd like the Hawei P8 Max with a 6.9" screen but nobody is doing one. So, in the end, I go have a look at the Google Nexus 6p, also from Haweei. It is supposed to have a 6" screen. Just to see if it would really be any better than what I have.

Into the shop I go, pick up the phone, put the screens side to side and top to bottom so I can compare the physical sizes of the actual display.

Interesting. The supposed 6" screen on the Nexus 6p is 1mm longer and 2mm wider than my 5.5" phone. OK it's a higher resolution but that doesn't help. I need bigger text to keep my glasses off.

So, I'm back to saving up some £350 for a 64 gig P8 Max which I'm going to have to buy direct and then put my sim in it...

I did however, get one useful point. I can move Mrs S' phone number to my main Vodafone number and then she can use my credit and my time for nothing. Because it's a red plan I don't pay the £3 per day EuroTraveller fee and neither would she. Which means that using her mobile would be cheaper than using the landline to phone both landlines and mobiles in the UK.....

Food for thought... I'll put it to Mrs S and see what she says.

Suff, depending on what your main requirement is for the phone what about a mini tablet that's phone enabled. Samsung have a tablet with an 8" screen. Admittedly on a 4G network it's more expensive (£450 according to Samsung website) if you buy it outright than the P8 (not sure what model that is though) but I'd have thought you'd be able to get it quite a bit cheaper on contract?

I had considered that Ria, however the tablet functionality is simply not good enough and you can't put it in your pocket.

The P8 Max, you can, it has better cameras and the software is better tuned to the combination of phone and mobile internet....

When everyone was running around with the smallest phone they could find I was running around with large screen phones which could do dial up internet. When people were crooning over the original iPhone I had the largest format screen Nokia I could get. When everyone was talking "apps" and pinch and stretch, I was using my galaxy note 2 and, generally, not resizing much at all, years later Apple finally capitulated and produced the "plus" phones...

When the web first took off and they said everything should be a website, I was using applications wherever I could as the web was generally useless. Now everyone has an "app" for everything but I'm using a hybrid of really capable web and minimal number of apps on any portable device.

I'm used to not fitting in the mainstream but sometimes it's really irritating that I have to shell out money because I'm 3-5 years ahead of the pack.
