Just wondering why...

Postby meriad » 21 Jan 2013, 21:29

I'm sitting here (as I often do) watching a programme about the UK Traffic Police, and again in this episode the police arrested a person for some offence (usually not licenced or not insured) and impounded their vehicle. Commentary at the end of the programme usually gives a summary of what happened and quite often it's a case of "xyz was given 5 points for driving without a valid insurance. He/She did not claim their car and it was crushed.... "

Why do they crush the car vs selling it to try and make a profit - some of the cars on the programmes aren't cheap and in quite good condition. It's such a waste and I really would have thought that the various forces could use the money?

I guess that kind of thinking takes a bit of common sense Ria.... and that is a rarity in government circles.

Some of them are perfectly good cars with fairly recent registrations. Stupid, isn't it?

It means the owner has to go and buy(steal) another car if he wants to drive. Liked it on a recent programme which showed the driver having to walk carrying his belongings.
