First of 8 episodes tonight.

Absolutely fantastic!

So interesting, full of history (which I adore) and Michael Potillo just makes me wish I was with him! :D :D :D :D

Didn't see all of it, but loved all the New York stuff, such an amazing new structure which hopefully will become as iconic as Grand Central. We've set it to record the rest of the series. Love Michael Portillo, he always seems to be genuinely interested.

Is this a repeat or a new series?

I read the other day that there're plans for an underground park, a version of the Highline in a disused underground tram station, on the Lower East Side.

I have loved all the 'Railway Journey' series'. I like Michael Portillo, he is a very personable bloke and one who you could spend the day in a pub with just swapping stories.

I had to watch the Manhattan one on iPlayer and have just watched the Long Island episode. I am hooked.

New series, Jo, nothing said about a park, but definitely a new overground-underground to Grand Central from Queens.

Thanks Frank, I was sure we'd watched Portillo in the US earlier this year but had missed the earlier episodes. I'll check out iPlayer for the Manhattan episode. Really enjoyed the one tonight.

Jo, it looks like you are right; it was shown in Feb this year. The TV guides have it all wrong.

We loved all the Railway Journeys he did here :) Apparently my BiL J and his wife are very briefly in one of them, but we've never managed to spot them

Will catch this new one on iplayer I reckon 8-) :)

Well I'm glad it's being repeated because the later episodes were good.

Very poignant episode tonight as Michael's in West Point, New York, which is where Don's brother was living when he enlisted for the Vietnam War. :(

Series 2 now being shown. Think it's started tonight, just watching him in St Louis.
Anyway, BBC2 at 6.30 for the next 9 nights (plus tonight).
