Aye, but what if it's one o' them wooden jobs? You know, the ones wi a metal loop over the ....

You lift the loop and open the gate and walk through, but the loop drops. You can't shut the gate because of the loop, but nowt can get in the way you came, so that's good. Ah, but t'sheep can get out wi a simple push, an' that's bad.

You try it a few more times, with the same happenstance, until it clicks - climb over the gate.

Unfortunately as you climb over one of them horizontal bits breaks, leaving a big 'ole. You decide that you can get through t'ole, which is good, but t'sheep can come through t'other way, which is bad, so instead of all this hassle you go 'ome for a cuppa and a digestive - milk chocolate, obviously.

And that's what the farmers wanted you to do all along.
