I can remember in my youth there were two fish and chip shops nearly opposite each other on my way home. The chip pans were heated by coal.
They were both open on a Saturday night. Always busy as there were several pubs nearby. Remember you could get scratchings added to your order for free. I know it was only sixpence for fish and chips.
Those were the good old days. Fish and chips wrapped in old newspapers.

You lot need a day out at the Black Country Living Museum, and pay a visit to the 1930s fish and chip shop. They'll give you batter bits and the chips are the best I've ever had.

Unfortunately, they're not at 1930s prices but we have annual passes and sometimes just go in for fish and chips
