What are we reading in August?

I'm just about to start The Double by Joanne Ryan.

I’m reading An Italian Girl in Brooklyn by Santa Montefiori. It’s a bit too sweet, but easy reading.

I finished Sunny Days and Sea Breezes by Carole Matthews last night. It was okay, very light and predictable.

Trying to decide what to read next, my Kindle suddenly has a different layout and all of the books I’ve already read are mixed in with those I haven’t, although they’re marked as read, so I gave up looking earlier.

I’m just finishing The Hungry Road by Marita Conlon-McKenna. It is set during Famine times in Ireland, and I honestly think if more English people read it, they would understand why anti-English sentiment has never left the Irish psyche.

Osc, I’ve just gone to Amazon and bought that.

It’s a depressing read, Jo, but very fact based and informative. It mixes together real people (I.e. the doctor) and fictional people who accurately reflect the terrible suffering of the time.

I think my Irish ancestors - well some of them, as I have them through both Mum and Dad - left because of the Famine, as the timing is right. They moved from Derry to Scotland. It must have been hell
