I stopped using Google because of the s sum sug suggs suggestions. I already knew what I was searching for so did not need google to try to guess for me. Well, I have found a way not to have suggestions, and here it is.

Open a new tab and in the address bar copy in http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en then hit Enter.

Now try a search and you get no suggestions. However, you do not want to have to do that every time you visit google so do this.

In the no suggestions page right click and Add to Favorites then place your new favourite on the Favorites Bar. Now right click on the new Google icon and choose Properties. In the Web Document tab copy in http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en to the URL address, click Apply. Go to the Details tab and do the same to the URL there. Apply and OK your way back out.

When you now click on the Google icon on your favourites bar it will open without suggestions.

Have fun. :D :D :D

It should work with any web browser - IE, Firefox and Chrome or any of their clones, but please understand that I am talking about Google the search engine and not the Google Chrome web browser; the two are totally different things.

Funnily enough I don't mind the preview. It is right about 70% of the time and for the rest I just keep typing. Even when it does pop up the results I often press enter because you get a different list if you do.

It's one of these progress things. Like when I used to know my search criteria in AltaVista but google produced the same results as a 60 character search string with one word. It took me a while to change over. Of course I now need to use the same types of search strings with Google for really obscure stuff.

I guess it would annoy me more if the preview produced a specific set of results which were restricting my choices or constantly trying to get money out of me. I find just pressing enter is easy and my home page is always google so having to go somewhere else to do the search would annoy me more.

Horses for courses.

It's a horse I would like to flog to death, then flog it some more.

Because of the suggestions I have tried any number of different search engines and none of them are a patch on google: not one. I had to find a way to turn suggestions off, I just had to as they distract and annoy me so much. And I am not alone as millions of people still keep asking google to provide a way of turning them off.
