Help- I am doing a mystery shop tomorrow and am all set to go. The only problem is I need to scan the receipt. I don't have a scanner but do have an android phone. Can anyone point me in the right direction with advice on how to go about it. I have never had to do this before. Thanks.

Hi Meds,

I don't do that sort of thing but I found this:

https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive Download and install on your phone.

https://support.google.com/drive/answer/3145835?hl=en Then follow the instructions.

I hope it works.

If that does not work try the librry for a normal scan or the Post Office - you don't need a printer for either of these.

Hi Medsec,

It depends on the version of your android phone. I literally just did what you are talking about for the photo I put on the photo board just now.

You take the photo then you need to share it. You have several options. If you go to the camera, tap the picture and then tap the share icon (this looks like a V tilted 45 deg to the right and with a circle on each point of the V), you get options to share it. You can, for instance, if you have mail on your phone, email it to yourself by selecting the mail icon.

Alternatively you can plug the phone into the computer using the USB cable. If you swipe down the top bar, it should either tell you the phone is connected as a media device (android 4.0 and above), or it will offer the option to enable USB storage. If it is connected as a camera, you need to change the way you see it. That can be changed by tapping on the entry in the status bar you swiped down.

With the phone connected, it presents itself in windows explorer with the name of the phone. If you have given the phone a name it will show that (mine is now Aardvark2), otherwise it will show the model name of the phone. This is not as obvious as you might think. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II, it presents itself as a GT-N7100.

Click on the phone entry in Windows Explorer (File Explorer in Widnows8) (I have windows8 and it shows just below the computer name in the sidebar), then you have one or two options. Phone or phone and card if you have a SD card installed. In either you will find a directory called DCIM. I have the directory in both as I sometimes do not have my card installed. In the DCIM directory you should find a Camera directory and your photos will be there. Find the one you just took and copy it to the desktop.

Then you can do with it as you wish.

:o

Go to the PO, slap the receipt in the scanner, get a copy, pay your 10p, done.

Keep the copy and post off the original.

Simples!

I'm a lost cause. I've already made a complete hash of trying to set up an account on Play Store. For some reason I put in a random user name instead of my goggle e-mail account. Now I cant delete it to start again. I will have to go to the 02 shop to ask them to delete it for me. It's not the first time I've been in there asking them to sort my phone out.

You're not the only one, Medsec - Join the club.

Technology today is so darned complicated, that even understanding the solution is often beyond me.

I was born too early, I suppose.

All went well. My son photographed the receipt and uploaded it by using a cable from the phone to the front of the computer. No idea what he did, but there was the receipt on the desktop. I had no problems incorporating it into the document after that. When I get a chance I will ask him to talk me through it - it seemed simple enough even for me! Thanks to all for your help.

Really it is quite simple. On the whole play store thing I sympathise. It's more complicated than it should be and getting rid of the accounts is in a ridiculous place. You can do it but you have to go deep into the settings.

Funnily enough I found that it took me about three months of faffing to finally get my Android phone as I wanted it. On the other hand my Windows phone took about 4 hours and only two queries which I should have been able to answer for myself.

Recently I had to reset parts of Mrs S iPad. She set it up blazing away with 4 different accounts, writing nothing down and immediately forgetting everything she had done. When I tried to get in and reset stuff I had to go and reset all the accounts she'd forgotten. Even worse, resetting one account required verification from another to complete the reset. The other account was also forgotten and you had to get out of the process to reset that one too. Starting the whole thing over again. I ran out of time trying to get it all done so parts of it are still not fixed.

Ridiculously over complicated for a supposedly easy to use device...
