I like the, "my mate is in XYZ so should know how to do a totally different but tenuously related task" within the general work arena.

A lad I knew in Cisco Paris could take apart any Cisco router, switch or hub. He was absolutely brilliant at it, he was trained for it. He absolutely could not make any of them do anything useful, but he worked for Cisco so......... :D

Ah, yes. I had to deal with an agency on the phone today. "So how good are you at these things?" I was on the phone and didn't have the job ad.

I had to phone him back and basically say "I were doing that when you were in short trousers lad when they didn't call it 'virtualisation' ...". Probably won't get the job because of some "youth" who's written the word a lot of times in his last job say's he's really good at it.....

Funny world what people can and can't do nowadays. It's hard to get someone who really knows what they are doing unless you get a good referee.....

Ria, I found this almost real time video of an Acer laptop fan being replaced - it runs for 12 mins. An additional check to see the heatsink is seated correctly would only take a minute or two. Ok, the person doing the job is obviously an Acer tech who has done it before. It might take your laptop shop a bit longer, but it gives you an indication of the amount of time you are likely to be charged for the work.

John, Aspire is a range of computers from a company called Acer. The range covers desktop PCs, netbook/laptops and has now been applied to tablet PCs. They come in many specifications and prices to suit most needs, and are very well built.

That is a complete motherboard strip to replace the fan. Not a repair friendly design. Also he is using a power screwdriver, whilst it is fast, I would not use it to reassemble. The nuts are embedded in the plastic of the casings, very easy to shear off even with small manual force.

However, essentially 15 minutes work and relatively simple. I'd have made a lot more of the daughter board edge connection and making sure it fitted correctly, but other than that, acceptable.

It's not a large part is it.
